On Saturday, May 13 I got a Hamster. It was a female Syrian Hamster. The fur is long light brown and a white silverish color. I named her Minnie. At first, I didn’t know what to name her, but then I came up with the name Minnie. I have had two hamsters before. I had a female Golden Syrian Hamster when I was quite young named Rosa, and then from, January 2015 to September 2016 I had a male White Russian Dwarf Hamster named Mickey. One of the reasons I decided to name my hamster Minnie, was in memory of Mickey, I also really like the name, Minnie. She was born on February 6, I think… I can’t 100% remember what date it said at the pet store, which is a little annoying, but I’ll just go with February 6 as her birthday. I have wanted another hamster for a while, but I wanted to get a lot of Tips and Tricks, knowledge and all the stuff ready before I got my new hamster. I bought a really big glass hamster cage for her and at first, I thought it was way too big, but now it actually seems like a very good size, bigger would even be better ;). On the day I bought Minnie I went to four different pet stores before I found a hamster that I liked, which was Minnie. I love playing with her, watching her eat, watching her stuff her cheeks full of food, etc. She is very cute and I really like her.

Here are some of the “interesting/fun” things that happened in my 8. grade school year.
In 8. grade you get one new school subject, which is social studies. I like it, but there is a lot of reading and we have to read a bunch first to get the knowledge before we can do stuff with the knowledge. In 8. grade we had “Skolevalg”, which means School Election. It’s like an election for teens in school who aren’t old enough to vote. For one week you work with politics, key issues, and the different parties. At the end of the week, you have to vote for one of the real life Danish parties. The vote doesn't count, but they do release the results, and the parties say that they do care about them, even though they don't count towards anything. We also had “Entrepreneur Weeks”. Those were weeks, where we had to invent, create, and come up with new things. That was pretty fun and it was nice to get some “breaks” from normal school. We also went on a school camping trip from April 3 to April 6. I went to Jutland with all the other kids from my grade. The trip was pretty fun. I had been to Jutland before, but I had never seen the area, we went to. We also drove to Flensburg for one day, which was pretty cool and I had never been to Flensburg before. It was like a little "vacation" with my friends and classmates. The best thing that happened for me in school this year, was winning the China Contest. I’m very happy that I won, and it will be so exciting for me to travel to China with the other 7 winners. In this blog post, I'm gonna talk about one of my obsessions, my latest obsession, which is.... PLANTS! If you asked most teenagers what their current obsession is they would probably answer with a TV-show, a new song, etc. And I could answer with one of those because currently, I'm actually obsessed with the Netflix show "13 Reasons Why" and the song "Only You", but I'm also obsessed with plants. I like all types of plants. Most of the plants I have are succulents. The reason I really like succulents is because they are easy to grow, most of them are also pretty easy to propagate, but mostly because they usually come in pretty small versions. In my room, there are a lot of windowsills that I want to fill up with plants. The windowsills are pretty small so there is not enough space for big plants. The windowsills are also in direct sunlight which makes them great for small succulents. I don't have any large succulents, all of my bigger plants are different species. I already have a bunch of plants and I keep buying more. I just want to put plants everywhere! I guess this blog post may have been kinda boring, especially for someone who doesn't really have an interest in plants, but I hope you enjoyed reading about my latest obsession anyways! P.S. Down below I have added some pictures of some of my plants! Such a long title, haha, but I didn't really know what else to name this and... it kinda matches with the long blog post.
Oh well, even though it is already April of 2017 I decided to do this because I found out my year is going to be quite eventful. Most of these are countries that I’m traveling to and vacations I’m going on. But I love traveling, so that’s great. School Camping Trip in Jutland: So, from April 3 to April 6, I’m going to Jutland with all the other kids from my grade. I’m pretty excited for the trip. I have been to Jutland before, but never to the area, we are going. We are also gonna drive down to Flensburg for one day, which is pretty cool and I have never been to Flensburg before. Confirmation: On May 25. I have my Confirmation. It’s pretty exciting since it will be a quite big day for me. All of the 8.A students that are getting confirmed are doing it on May 25 at two different times during the day. I have the later time around 1 pm. Afterward, at around 3 pm, I have a party being held at a restaurant called “Kongemosen”. I'm looking forward to being celebrated and getting confirmed. Summer Vacation: My summer vacation this year is gonna be quite eventful, out of the 6 weeks of summer vacation I have, I will only have around one week at home. I am going to 3 different countries in my summer vacation. First I’m going on a Language Exchange to Brighton in the UK. After my trip to Brighton. I’m going to Berlin, Germany. And then from Berlin, we take a plane to Bologna, Italy. Brighton - UK - Language Exchange: So the first thing happening for me in 2017 is my Language Exchange trip to Brighton, UK. I’m pretty excited about it. I will get to experience a lot of things, and also learn even more English since while I’m over there I also have school. I will also stay with a host family which will be quite fun. Because I’m staying with a host family I get to experience the culture and the way they live. It will be my first trip to another country without my parents, with an exception of the school camping trip where we had one day in Flensburg. It will probably be kinda challenging and hard. But most likely also quite rewarding and fun. Berlin - Germany: So the second country I'm visiting in my summer break is Berlin, Germany. We are going to Berlin for around 7 days, It's not final yet. The main reason we are going to Berlin is because my mom really wanted to go see Celine Dion on her tour, but the show in Denmark was sold out. I have been to Germany a couple of times before, but I have never visited Berlin. So I'm looking forward to this trip as well. Bologna - Italy: The last country I am going to in my summer break is Bologna, Italy. We are going straight from Berlin to Bologna. I have also been to Italy before, multiple times actually, but Bologna is new for me. We will most likely be staying in Bologna for 7 days, but it is not final. I think it will be nice to relax in Bologna. Some of the hotels we have looked at seem really good. China: So if you have checked my blog, you will probably have seen the Blog posts I have made about China and the China Contest. But to give you the gist of it. I entered an English writing contest for all 8-grade students in Ballerup municipality and… I won. The winning prize was a 12 day trip to China. So, In September of 2017, I'm visiting China with 7 other 8 graders. I have never been to China, or even Asia before. So this will be a ton of fun. So as some of you may know if you've read my China blog post, link below, I entered a contest.
I won't explain too much about it in this "update" blog post because I talked about it in the other one, so I would suggest that you read that one first ;). But, the winning prize was a trip to China. Last week on Monday, March 6th, all the students who entered the contest and another contest where the winning prize was a trip to Germany, went to Ballerup city hall, to figure out who won and..... I WON! So, in September of 2017, 7 grade eight students and I are going to China! I'm super happy that I got this amazing opportunity, and I'm really excited for the trip to China. I was even featured in Ballerup's local newspaper! Picture from the newspaper below of the 8 winners. So I entered the China contest.
The China contest was a contest for all grade 8 students in Ballerup municipality. If you wanted to enter you had to write a 3-page essay (max). All who wanted to enter were given a flyer with the questions, that had to be answered in the essay. “China-The Middle Kingdom” “Explain the meaning of the quotation-”Beijing is the present, Xi’an the past, and Shanghai the future” “Give your thoughts on where you see China in the next 20 years”, “Why is international cooperation important and what does it mean to you”. Those were the questions to be answered. Getting started with the essay was kinda hard, I didn't really know how to answer those questions or where to begin. I started searching around the internet and found some good articles about ethnocentrism, past China, present day China, and China in the future. Then I used some of the information from those articles and the rest was just personal opinion. It was hard at first, but I am really pleased with the end result. I think it was a really interesting experience to live in the United States. We lived in the United States for about 14 months, from November 2012 to January 2014.
Because I lived there, I became much better at English and I've experienced some things that I would never have if I stayed in Denmark. Of course, I also missed 14 months of Danish classes, but otherwise, there were most of the same school subjects in the United States, as we have in Denmark. I don’t think that it really mattered that I also didn’t see my family or my friends for 14 months, which was hard. Some of my family did visit us in the U.S. though, which made the time even more precious. I don’t think that it really mattered that I missed Danish because it was in the 4-5 grade. In fact, I got 12 in 8th-grade Danish writing end-of-term examination, so I think my Danish is actually pretty good. ;) I only seem to have gotten good things out of living in the U.S. I also think I got well back into the classroom. We had made an agreement with the school, that when I came back, I would get into the same class. Now it is also more than two years ago, but it feels like I have always been in this class, you don’t feel the “missed” time. Although living in the U.S. was fairly hard, in the beginning, I quickly fit in and learned a lot of English, and I think it was a really interesting experience, I'm very happy and grateful that I got this opportunity. My family owns a little cottage in Kristianstad, Sweden.
We go to our cottage often, when we have breaks from school or just a weekend. So we usually leave Saturday morning and return home Sunday evening. It takes about one and a half hour to drive there. It is located in a forest, high up on a mountain. We have a large plot, which is surrounded by trees. It's great that you can just be yourself. The house is very tiny, so if you are up there for a long time, you can get a little annoyed at your family. Fortunately, we have a large plot of land, so you can just go outside. In the summer we are also outside a lot. The weather is nice, so you can sit outside and relax. The worst thing about going to the cottage is probably the toilet It's not like a normal toilet that you can flush, it's a toilet that has to be emptied. You don’t have to empty it every time, you use it. Fortunately, you don't actually have to empty it very often. Friends
