Title:
Legend, First book in the Legend trilogy.
When/where did you buy this?
I bought the book in Barnes and Nobles, which is a bookstore, while I was on vacation this summer (August 2016). But I first started reading recently. (October 2016)
Sequel:
The follow up to the book is Prodigy, which is out.
Publication date for this book was November 29, 2011
It is a New York Times bestseller
Author:
Marie Lu
Nonfiction or Fiction?
The book is fiction, but realistic.
Brief Resume:
The book is told with two perspectives. Day’s and June’s.
Day is on the run because he has stolen from the republic.
June is in university, she has completed 3 years, even though she's only 15.
Both of June's parents are dead, so she is being raised by her brother Metias.
Day’s younger brother Eden gets sick, so Day breaks into a hospital in hopes of finding plaque medicine for his younger brother. The hospital is out of plaque medicine, so Day doesn't get any.
Metias dies, and Day is put responsible for his death.
Day escapes.
June drops out of university early and she starts working for the military. June wants revenge for her brother, so her first mission is to find Day.
June and Day meet up later without knowing. Then, June starts to learn about the dark and messed up things about the republic.
Main Characters:
June: She is the only person who scored a perfect rating on her trial (which is a mandatory test system that kinda determines what job you will get).
Day: A smart 15-year-old boy, who failed his trial. He is the most wanted criminal. But the Republic has no idea what he looks like.
Theme:
I think the theme could be Rich vs Poor. The Rich live good lives and they get vaccines and cures for the plague. The poor live bad lives, they don't get vaccines or cures, because they can't afford it. Kinda like in the hunger games.
Did you like the book?
I liked the book, but it could become confusing at times. Because you switch between Day’s and June's perspectives. They make it a little bit easier with different fonts and colors. I love The Hunger Games and Divergent. Legend is a little bit like those two books. The book becomes even more confusing if you stop reading it for a while. It’s better to read over a short period. Halfway through the book, it really started getting interesting. It’s a good “Binge” book.
Do you recommend the book, and to who?
I definitely recommend the book, mainly to people who like books about dystopian futures. It could be both boys and girls. Mostly teenagers.
I choose to give it 7/10.
