The title:
Paper Towns
About the author and book:
The author of this book is John Green. The book was released in 2010 and has since been made into a movie, which was released in 2015 starring Cara Delevingne as Margo and Nat Wolff as Quentin aka Q.
Is it fiction or nonfiction:
The book is fiction, but realistic. The book takes place in a present-day world, just like the one we live in.
Main characters:
Quentin Jacobson: Nickname - Q. The book is written from Qs point of view. He hates prom and talks about it throughout the whole book. He is anxious, an introvert and a little bit awkward. His life is simple. He has an everyday routine that rarely changes and he likes it that way. Even though he doesn't really want to, he actually likes being bored and having a simple life. Q is crazy in love with Margo and has been so for a very long time.
Margo Roth Spiegelman: Throughout the book, Margo is portrait as being brave. She saw a dead guy with Q when she was little, she was brave enough to look closer. She is one of the popular girls in high school and has a boyfriend named Jason. Throughout the book, she changes and turns out to be different, from what people thought and knew about her.
Theme:
The main theme for the book is probably mystery. Young adult novel. The target audience are teenagers. It also has a theme of Exploration, since they do a lot of exploring in the book.
Brief resume:
The book is written in the perspective of Quentin, who is mad in love with Margo. He has known Margo since he was a little kid. Suddenly Margo needs Quentin's help to get revenge on her friends, who betrayed her. She disappears after that wild night. Quentin and his friends go looking for Margo. They find clues that Margo hid for them. Quentin figures out all of Margo’s friends had different perceptions of her, but nobody actually knew the real Margo Roth Spiegelman.
Message:
I don't really know, but maybe that there is more to people than you think and can see. In the book, all of Margo’s friends have different perceptions of her. Nobody actually knew the real Margo.
My favorite passage from the book:
"The way I figure it, everyone gets a miracle. Like, I will probably never be struck by lightning, or win a Nobel Prize, or become the dictator of a small nation in the Pacific Islands, or contract terminal ear cancer, or spontaneously combust. But if you consider all the unlikely things together, at least one of them will probably happen to each of us. I could have seen it rain frogs. I could have stepped foot on Mars. I could have been eaten by a whale. I could have married the queen of England or survived months at sea. But my miracle was different. My miracle was this: out of all the houses in all the subdivisions in all of Florida, I ended up living next door to Margo Roth Spiegelman.
Did you like the book - Why? / Why not?
I really liked the book. There were also sometimes, where the book actually made me laugh out loud, which is kinda weird. But I like books that make me laugh. In general like things that make me laugh/happy.
Do you recommend the book to others - if so, to who?The main characters in the book are teenagers, so I would mostly recommend the book to teenagers. Teenagers can maybe relate more to the characters in the book and understand some of the things that they are going through and talking about. I would recommend it to people, who are a fan of John Green. If you like young adult/teenager mystery novels.
I choose to give it 8/10.
